Objective:

It aims to regulate the working conditions in shops and commercial establishments Goa. Its provisions like standardized working hours, regulating overtime, rest intervals and weekly holidays, employee’s rights and mechanisms for registration, inspection and compliance enforcements.

Applicability

All the shops and establishments regardless the number of employees is required to register and comply with the act’s provisions.

Key Provisions

1. Mandated registration of all establishments and shops

2. Hours of Opening and closing, working hours, rest intervals, weekly holidays, annual leaves and overtime rules

3. Inspection and enforcement authority powers and procedures

4. Procedure Maintenance of records

5. Penalties on non-compliance and violations

6. Maternity benefits and other benefits for employees

7. Prohibition of child labour and working conditions of women.

8. Every commercial establishment must register within 90 days.

Penalties and Compliance

1. For any offence employer are liable to pay fine.

2. The registration is generally valid up to 1 year.

3. Local government officials may choose to halt or shut down the companies.

4. Disqualification from government tenders or benefits
