Objectives:

The Manipur Professions, Trades, Callings, and Employments Taxation Act, 1981 serves as the governing legislation. It governs the levy in Manipur, and fresh modifications are always being made to the system. The state has made the tax more equal by easing the burden on lower-income taxpayers. Applicability:

It is applicable on the Salaried workers (central, state, and private) making more than ₹50,000 a year and Professionals working for themselves, independent contractors, entrepreneurs, firms, companies, HUFs, and cooperative societies who make more than ₹50,000 a year.

Key Provisions:

1. It is applied according to employment type.

2. All the individuals paying the PT should obtain the registration or enrolment.

3. Should file annual return on 30th of March.

4. Registered individual should submit the periodic returns along with challan.

5. It is liability of employer to pay the PT on the behalf of employees.

Penalties and Compliance:

1. False info in the application can lead file up to Rs. 1000.

2. Late and non-payment led to 2% to 200% penalty.

3. Delayed registration led to Rs. 20 per day. On employer and Rs. 5 per day on employee.

4. It is responsibility of employer to pay the PT timely.
