Applicability:The Assam Shops and Establishments Act 1971 applies to all shops and commercial establishments across the state. Establishments with 20 or more employees must register under the Act. Registration is valid for 5 years from the date of registration. Establishments with fewer than 20 employees must submit an intimation to the Labour Department. Compliance with the Act is mandatory for all establishments regardless of size.
