The Ministry of Labour and Employment has published Notification No. S.O. 5109(E) on 17th September 2026, replacing its previous notification no. S.O. 2702(E) that was published on 29th May 2026. The government, in pursuance of clause (89) of Section 2 of the Code on Social Security, 2020, has fixed ₹25,000 per month as the new monthly wage ceiling for the application of Chapter III of the code (which includes EPF, EPS and EDLI provisions).

The new wage ceiling of ₹25,000 per month becomes effective from 17 September 2026 itself, the date of Gazette publication.
This notification supersedes the earlier one, S.O. 2702(E), which was dated 29 May 2026 and had fixed ceiling at ₹15,000 per month.
The notification was issued in accordance with the authority granted by Section 2(89) of the Code on Social Security, 2020.
It applies specifically to Chapter III of the Code, which governs the Employees' Provident Fund, Employees' Pension Scheme, and Employees' Deposit Linked Insurance Scheme.
Anything already done under the earlier ₹15,000 ceiling before this supersession remains valid and unaffected.
