The Office of the Labour Commissioner, Odisha (Bhubaneswar) has issued a notification No. 8393/LC, dated 8 October 2026, signed by Labour Commissioner Shri Indramani Tripathy, IAS. It is revising the Variable Dearness Allowance (VDA) for unskilled, semi-skilled, skilled and highly skilled workers in the State. The VDA will increase by Rs. 6 per day, effective from 1 October 2026, in addition to the earlier VDA that had been declared. This rise is calculated according to the Consumer Price Index for industrial workers (with a base of 2016 = 100), which went up on average from 147.50 to 149.80, representing an increase of 2.30 points at a rate of Rs. 2.60 per point. The adjustment comes in line with the State’s minimum wages notification No. 5308 of 18 July 2024 (Gazette No. 1367), under which the VDA is announced twice a year, on 1 April and 1 October.
