Minimum Wages of Andaman and Nicobar Islands

The Andaman & Nicobar Administration has revised the minimum wages through order no-473 dated 19th Dec,2025 applicable in the Union Territory with effect from 1 January 2026. These rates are the minimum amount that employers must pay their workers based on the nature of work and skill level. The revised wages apply to workers engaged in scheduled employments as well as employees working in government departments, offices, and industrial establishments where the notification is applicable. The wage revision has been made after considering changes in the Consumer Price Index (CPI), which reflects the increase in the cost of living. Employment Categories & Additional Benefits
Unskilled:Workers who have at least one year experience in the trade, able to do repetitive work or simple jobs using simple tools or machines
Semi-skilled:Workers who have at least one year experience in the trade, able to do repetitive work or simple jobs using simple tools or machines
Skilled:Workers who perform tasks requiring specialized skills, training or technical ability; they are more independent in their work (beyond just repeating simple tasks)
Highly Skilled:Workers with advanced technical knowledge, supervisory or managerial roles, or highly specialized competence (engineers, senior supervisors, etc.)
Penalty & Compensation for paying less than Minimum Wages
Penalty:Fine of Rs. 500/- or 6 months imprisonment or both
Compensation:Up to ten times the difference between the prescribed minimum wage and the wage actually paid.
