Minimum Wages of Assam

The Government of Assam’s Labour Welfare Department has officially issued an update under Notification No. E-238621/700 , signed by Principal Secretary Gyanendra Dev Tripathi. In continuation to the previous mandate No. E-238621/696, this statutory directive revises the Variable Dearness Allowance (VDA) payable to employees across key scheduled employments. Calculated on a 100% rise on the average All India General Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers (CPI-IW base 2016=100) , the new total wages per month are officially slated to come into force with an effective date of 01-06-2025. Under this latest wage structure, the total monthly compensation scales are set at Rs. 10,354 for Unskilled workers, Rs. 12,037 for Semi-Skilled / Unskilled Supervisory personnel, Rs. 15,047 for Skilled Workers / Clerical staff, and Rs. 19,345 for Highly Skilled Workers. This regulatory update serves as an essential legal standard for HR compliance and labor law auditing across all specified sectors operating within the state.

Employment Categories & Additional Benefits
Unskilled:Workers who have at least one year experience in the trade, able to do repetitive work or simple jobs using simple tools or machines
Semi-skilled:Workers who have at least one year experience in the trade, able to do repetitive work or simple jobs using simple tools or machines
Skilled:Workers who perform tasks requiring specialized skills, training or technical ability; they are more independent in their work (beyond just repeating simple tasks)
Highly Skilled:Workers with advanced technical knowledge, supervisory or managerial roles, or highly specialized competence (engineers, senior supervisors, etc.)
Penalty & Compensation for paying less than Minimum Wages
Penalty:Fine of Rs. 500/- or 6 months imprisonment or both
Compensation:Up to ten times the difference between the prescribed minimum wage and the wage actually paid.
