Minimum Wages of Ladakh

The Ladakh Gazette Extraordinary (SG-LD-E-04112022-1160), the Administration of Union Territory of Ladakh (Labour and Employment Department) has officially revised the minimum rates of wages under Notification S.O. 117, dated November 2, 2022. Exercising the powers conferred under Section 5(2) of the Minimum Wages Act, 1948, the UT Level Advisory Committee updated the base wage rates across 45 scheduled employments, including construction, public motor transport, and hospitality. These updated daily wage configurations establish an immediate effective date from the date of publication of the notification (November 4, 2022), serving as the baseline statutory framework continuing forward. Furthermore, a mandatory geographical premium applies to the tehsils of Zanskar, Durbuk, and Nyoma, directing employers to pay a strict 10% additional wage above the notified rates due to exceptional geographical distance and difficult living conditions.

Applicability:It covers all Ladakh scheduled jobs even it every employee, contract labourer and labourers. It relates to government buildings, local governments, mines, factories, and other scheduled industries. It does not include members of the armed forces

Penalty & Compensation for paying less than Minimum Wages
Penalty:Fine of Rs. 500/- or 6 months imprisonment or both
